Apple Launches The iPhone 14 And iPhone 14 Plus
- Apple’s iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have a number of upgrades, including crash detection, an A15 chip, better cameras, satellite emergency services, and Always On Displays that show your entire lock screen, instead of a simplified interface.
- Some don’t think much has changed including Eve Jobs, who publicly mocked the new phone.
- Others think it’s the best one yet giving reasons such as it being easier and cheaper to repair than recent models.
What are the upgrades?
With the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple abandons the typical notch in favour of a pill-shaped cut-out to house the front cameras. But they didn’t stop there. They also use algorithms and animations to make the cut-out feel more useful and integrated into the UI than it does on Android phones. In classic Apple tradition, the feature has been given a snazzy name: Dynamic Island.
The Dynamic Island isn’t the only case of Apple implementing a feature later but in its own unique style. The iPhone 14 Pros also include a 48-megapixel camera system and Always On Displays, which display the whole lock screen rather than a streamlined UI. With the addition of Emergency SOS via Satellite and the removal of the physical SIM tray, the iPhone 14 Pros feel like a significant upgrade.
Easier to fix it yourself
Apple said the iPhone 14 was made to be more repairable, but it may not have emphasised this feature enough. It’s obvious that the whole thing was rethought with DIY repairs in mind. As promised, the back glass is more affordable and easier to repair, and a metal midframe has been incorporated to keep the front side just as accessible. A lot of Android phones are only easily accessible from the back; however, the new iPhone can be opened from any angle.
The public opinion
Eve Jobs, the youngest child of Apple co-founder and long-time boss Steve Jobs, turned to Instagram with a joke spoofing the recurring similarities and, perhaps, unimaginative feature additions for the latest iPhone instalment.
The viral meme depicts a man holding out a present shirt that is identical to one he is already wearing. The meme Job shared was captioned, “Me upgrading from iPhone 13 to iPhone 14 after Apple’s announcement today,” and shared it with her almost 500,000 followers before deleting it.
Some believe that the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have minimal differences from the iPhone 13 and don’t think it’s worth the upgrade. The 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus use the same chip as the iPhone 13 Pro, which has an additional GPU-core over the ordinary iPhone 13 models.
Aside from a minor performance boost, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus gain new camera features such as focusing on the front-facing camera and improved low-light performance. Customers will have the best battery life in any iPhone thanks to the bigger size of the iPhone 14 Plus.
