If you’re looking at implementing new IT security measures in 2020 but are unsure where to start, here’s a top 5 shortlist:
MFA
Add MFA to your online accounts, especially your email. Online services can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection, making them convenient for you, and any potential attackers.
Patch your devices
Make sure you are patching regularly to protect against published security vulnerabilities. This applies to your computer and mobile devices, but also servers, networking equipment and anything else that is directly under your control.
Add anti-malware software
As an extra layer of protection, add anti-malware software to your computers and servers.
Use disk encryption
To help protect devices if they are lost or stolen, enable disk encryption. This is a free technology built in to Macs (FileVault) and PCs (BitLocker) that helps provide considerable physical security benefits.
Inventory
Make sure you have a capable, automated inventory system that can tell you how many devices you have, who’s using them and how they are configured. You can’t protect them if you don’t know about them!
Summary
There are of course lots more things you can do, sometimes it can be hard to know where to start. Kick off with the above items and you’ll have significantly increased the security posture of your organisation for 2020!
